How to Reduce Polygon Count for 3D Printing

Polygon reduction can make dense scans easier to handle. The right target depends on visible detail and the printer, so review instead of using one universal percentage.

A practical workflow

  1. Upload the source mesh
  2. Choose a reduction target that preserves needed detail
  3. Compare original and optimized geometry side by side
  4. Approve and download the optimized STL

What to check

Supported mesh inputs are STL, OBJ, 3MF, GLB, GLTF and FBX. STEP, STP and IGES should be exported to a mesh format first. The geometry workflow runs in your browser. Quote and account actions are separate services and are only used when you submit them.

Frequently asked questions

What should I check before I start?

Confirm that the model is a supported mesh format, review its orientation and inspect it for obvious holes, overlap or thin areas before generating or splitting geometry.

Does this replace a slicer?

No. AutoMold3D creates or prepares model geometry. Use your own slicer to set printer-specific layers, supports, materials and G-code.

Should I inspect the output?

Yes. Preview and inspect generated mold or split parts before printing. Model geometry, material choice and printer behavior are project-specific.
