What to Do When a Model Is Too Large for Your 3D Printer

A model larger than the available build volume can be divided into printable sections, arranged for FDM and assembled after printing.

A practical workflow

  1. Upload the model that exceeds your printer volume
  2. Set the actual X, Y and Z build limits
  3. Review safe split interfaces and optional connectors
  4. Arrange parts for FDM and download the ZIP

What to check

Supported mesh inputs are STL, OBJ, 3MF, GLB, GLTF and FBX. STEP, STP and IGES should be exported to a mesh format first. The geometry workflow runs in your browser. Quote and account actions are separate services and are only used when you submit them.

Frequently asked questions

What should I check before I start?

Confirm that the model is a supported mesh format, review its orientation and inspect it for obvious holes, overlap or thin areas before generating or splitting geometry.

Does this replace a slicer?

No. AutoMold3D creates or prepares model geometry. Use your own slicer to set printer-specific layers, supports, materials and G-code.

Should I inspect the output?

Yes. Preview and inspect generated mold or split parts before printing. Model geometry, material choice and printer behavior are project-specific.
