Split a Large Model for FDM Printing
Plan the fewest safe cuts that fit the real printer build volume, then place connectors only where the cut face has enough material.
Enter the usable X, Y and Z build dimensions rather than the advertised maximum alone. Keep a safety margin for brim, tuning and tolerance, then let the splitter plan the minimum practical number of sections.
Inspect every proposed cut. Details that create detached islands or fragile interfaces should stay with the larger neighboring part, and connector geometry should be skipped when it would break through a thin wall.
Arrange the completed sections with a stable flat side on the build plate. Print a small connector test first when fit matters, then adjust the tolerance before committing to a large job.
