How to Split a Large STL for 3D Printing
When an STL is too large for a printer, plan cuts around the real build volume and assemble from strong interfaces.
Enter the usable X, Y, and Z limits of the printer rather than its advertised maximum. Leave room for brims, supports, and tolerance so the exported sections fit the process you actually run.
Choose cuts on broad, low-detail areas where the parts can be aligned and glued. Pins or sockets help only when the surrounding wall is strong enough; thin interfaces should remain simple flat joins.
Orient each section with a stable face on the bed and test one connector pair if it controls the assembly. The splitter produces geometry; your slicer still controls layers, supports, material, and G-code.
