How to Reduce STL File Size Without Losing Needed Quality
Reduce STL polygon count gradually and compare the result so the details that matter to the final mold remain intact.
High triangle counts can slow browser tools and slicers without improving a printed surface. Start with a modest reduction target and preserve sharper edges, text, and small features that affect the mold cavity.
Compare the original and optimized previews side by side. If rounded areas look unchanged but feature edges soften, lower the reduction level rather than treating the smallest file as the best result.
Export only after the geometry still matches the intended size and silhouette. Triangle reduction is not a repair step; inspect non-manifold edges and broken shells separately when the source mesh is damaged.
