How to Make a Two-Part Mold from an STL File

A two-part mold works when the model can separate along a deliberate parting line without trapping geometry.

Place the parting line where both halves can open cleanly. The best line is usually driven by the widest silhouette and any undercuts, not merely by the visual centre of the model.

Add enough wall thickness around the cavity and leave predictable clearance between the original model and the mold. Registration pins should sit in solid, broad areas rather than in thin decorative features.

Inspect the split faces, locking features, and pour path in the preview. After printing, test the empty halves together before casting to confirm alignment and release.
