How to Choose a Mold Type for Your 3D Model
Choose a mold workflow from the geometry, release direction and intended casting process—not from the visual shape alone.
Start by checking whether the object can leave a two-part mold along one clear split plane. A simple half-and-half box mold is usually the easiest option when undercuts are limited and the object can sit on a flat base.
Use a tray mold for repeated shallow cavities. Use a vase or planter workflow for open-top or hollow forms that need an internal core. A press mold is appropriate when one half becomes a matching piston that pushes material into a shallow cavity.
Before printing, inspect clearance, wall thickness, the pour path and the locking interfaces. A generated mold is a printable geometry starting point; material behavior and release strategy still need a physical test.
