3D-Printed Mold Wall Thickness Guide

Mold wall thickness should protect the cavity and registration features while staying practical for the chosen printer and material.

Use thicker walls around deep cavities, pour openings, and pins because those areas see local stress during assembly and release. Very thin walls may print, but they can flex enough to affect alignment or casting dimensions.

The right thickness also depends on nozzle size, layer settings, infill strategy, and material stiffness. Treat the generator setting as a starting geometry value, then verify it against your slicer profile and intended use.

Preview the thinnest areas before export and make a small test when the mold will be clamped or filled under pressure. Increase material around weak transitions instead of relying only on a global wall setting.
